Get Creative and Ask Guests to Decorate a Onesie or Bib at Your Baby Shower

At the baby shower I recently hosted, I asked guests to design their own bib or onesie with fabric markers. It was a lot of fun and everyone was so creative! Once the guests were finished,  they hung up their creations with clothespins to natural wire that I had strung along my fence. It was great because the bibs and onesies served as both a gift and decoration for the party!

What you need:
Plain white bibs and onesies. I found mine on Amazon.
Fabric markers
Clothespins
Natural wire
Hammer and nails to hang the natural wire to the fence
Business cards from Office Depot or Office Max to make the gift tags. The cards usually come with a downloadable business card template, which is easy to use.

I also printed out some fun phrases (which I found online) for my guests to use. Feel free to print this out for your guests and add your own sweet and silly sayings to the list.

Create a Unique Baby Shower Guest Book

Are you looking for a unique guest book idea for your baby shower? Have guests sign a onesie that the baby can wear home from the hospital!

For my friends baby shower, I made a onesie on CafePress that says "We (Heart) Baby Jackson." Then, I bought a fabric pen, so that the guests could sign it. Now, their baby girl will have a truly special onesie signed by everyone who is excited to meet her!

A Tutorial for Flower Headbands and Hair Clips

I love to make flower headbands and hair clips for my friends and their babies. They are the perfect gift. Here are a few photos of ones I have made:

What You Need:
Fabric
Thread
Needle
Felt (preferably the same color as the fabric)
Paper
Printer
Scissors
Hair clips or elastic for headbands
Pearls or jewels for the center of the flower
Hot Glue Gun

For the elastic, cut your headband sizes accordingly
Newborn- 13 3/4"
3-6 months - 15"
6-12 months- 16 1/4"
12m-Tween- 17 1/4"
Adult- 18 1/4"

Directions:

First, print out a copy of this flower or draw it. With your printer on in Microsoft Word, you should be able to scale it to whatever size you prefer. The larger the flower, the bigger the hairpiece and vice versa. I like mine between 4- to 2-inches across. When making a flower, I often layer different sizes.

Now, pin the paper flower to the fabric and cut out your flowers.  Then, cut two circles that are the same size out of the felt.

Fold one of the fabric flowers in half, then fold it in half again two more times, so that it looks like this:

Once you have the flower folded, sew it the edge of the circle like this.

Repeat this process until you can no longer see the edge of the circle:

Now add more flowers to the center until you have the desired fullness:

Then, add your embellishments. You can roll up a piece of tulle and sew it into the center like this:

Or you can add a jewel or button:

Or you can add more petals to make a full-looking flower:

Once you have a flower you like, grab the other circle and the clip

Fold the circle in half and cut two slits into it:

Slip the clip through the slits like this:

Glue the circle to the other circle, and you're all done! You now have a beautiful flower hair clip!

If you prefer a headband, flip your flower upside down and place the elastic across the circle. Glue the other circle on top, and viola!

Good luck!

Plant Succulents in Teacups

I wanted my garden to have a vintage look, so I decided to plant succulents in teacups, which I found at a local antique shop. Here is an example of one. It's super cute!

What you need:
Succulents
Potting soil
Teacups and saucers
Gardening gloves (optional)

What to do:
Shovel in a small amount of potting soil into the bottom of your teacup. Place your succulents into the teacup and add soil to the edges and top. Hurrah! You've finished!

Be careful not to overwater. Succulents do not need much water to survive.

Make a Singed Flower Hairpiece with Satin & Tulle

One of my closest friends got married this summer, and she asked me to make her a flower hairpiece for her wedding. I felt honored that she wanted to wear one of my handmade flowers on such an important day in her life, so of course, I agreed.

To give me an idea of what she wanted, she sent me photos of flower hairpieces she liked, and she asked that I use purple fabric to match her wedding colors. She absolutely loved it, and it looked so beautiful in her wavy brownish-blonde hair.

Here's how to make one:

You need:
Satin and tulle
Button with beads and rhinestones
Thread, the same color as your fabric
Scissors
Candles and matches
Felt, the same color as your fabric
Hair clip
Hot glue gun

First, cut your fabric into the shape of a flower. I made my flowers different sizes, so that I would have larger petals for the outside of the flower and smaller petals for the center. You can print out this flower and use it as a template. In Microsoft Word, you can change its size.

Now, use a candle to carefully singe/melt the edges of your petals. Do not get too close to the flame because your edges will curl too much and you could even catch the fabric on fire. Trim off any black edges that you don't like.

Next, layer your petals until you like how they look. Place your button with beads in the center of your flower. With a needle and thread, sew the button and layers together.

Cut two circles out of the felt. Make sure they are the same size. Glue one of the circles to the back of the flower. Cut two slits into the other felt circle and slip in the hair clip. Glue that circle to the other circle.

Congratulations! You've created a flower hairpiece!
